Highways England

Highways England is a government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England’s motorways and major A roads. The organisation holds a vast amount of data in relation to England’s road network, spread over multiple systems. This data is geo-located, either represented as a point on a map or as a complex array of polygons, often intersecting and overlaying one another. Xerini were tasked with bringing this data (over 3 million data instances) onto a map, for the first time, using an intuitive and performant user interface. The many advantages of visualising all of the data in one place, such as being able to view detailed renderings of the road surfaces, overlaid with detailed schematics of the drainage network along with flood-risk data has been a game changer for Highways England.

The Professional Construction Strategies Group (PCSG Limited) are a leading digital built-environment consultancy based in the UK and Australia who partner with some of the biggest names in the construction and engineering industry. Xerini have helped PCSG to build out advanced data processing and visualisation components in the geospatial space, delivered via web or mobile. We have worked very closely on numerous projects and have become a trusted and valued partner that delivers using our proven mix of pragmatic, simple, user-friendly and value-driven approach.

The British Board of Agrement, or BBA, is the UK’s leading construction certification body. As they started their journey to become a fully fit-for-purpose, system-driven, and client-focussed organisation, they engaged Xerini to assist them with some key decision making regarding software systems and vendors to support them. Xerini assessed the BBA’s current core systems, worked with their partners and providers to build a picture of several options that could position them for the future, and helped them to achieve a cost effective solution.

HS2 is the biggest engineering project in Europe and of our time. Xerini were delighted to provide expertise to help the organisation manage their complex data integration requirements. We set about simplifying the processes and architecture and moving to a more flexible, open-source-based solution that gave their analysts and managers full control and visibility of the data. We also built a reliable and extensible system that provided them with a means of getting on top of their data quality problems. Furthermore, our advanced mapping techniques and visualisations have helped HS2 personnel to easily search, locate and cross-reference their data sets.
